Three-level interchange in Tajikistan
The first ever three-level interchange in Tajikistan, comprising a flyover, underpass and an at-grade road, was inaugurated in Dushanbe, the country’s capital, on 5th September.
This marks a major achievement for SYSTRA’s teams in India who won a contract in 2014 for Consultancy Services for the Detailed Design, Preparation of Tender Documents and Procurement Support Services for a 4.6km section of the M-41 Road within Dushanbe from Avicenna Monument to West Gate including Construction Supervision of the 82nd Micro District (three-level interchange).
One of the challenges faced by the teams, considering the central location of the project, involved the relocation of pipelines for Water, Sewage, Gas and Heating mains.
The project, carried out on behalf of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Transport, forms part of a larger project funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). It is of great strategic importance to Tajikistan and to the wider region as it forms part of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program, a partnership of 11 countries and development partners working together to promote development through cooperation, leading to accelerated economic growth and poverty reduction.
